[ Serenity has been lonely before. While she has her guardians, yes, and they provide comfort and friendship she'll miss now that she's on Arrakis, a nagging feeling in the pit of her stomach has always told her that...
...she can't say what it's told her. So far, she's been unable to pin down the nature of this gap between her and those she cares for.
Her and most she's met.
She sits back, neck craned now so that she's staring straight upward. ]
I hope it is. [ If she pretends, one of the moons could be hers. ] If it crosses your path, you should let it in. I wish you could promise me that.
[ Still, she won't ask that of him.
She pulls her limbs in, curls up tight. The pinkie finger of her left hand draws circles on her right knee through the fabric of her dress. ]
Maybe it'll be like my dream. He won't look behind, and I won't get the chance.
[ A touch pessimistic; see what happens when she's left to dwell inside her thoughts? One wiggle of her hips later, she tucks her chin at her knees. ]
But...he could be here on Arrakis, somewhere.
[ Her mother may have very well perceived the inevitable snag in the plans, deciding to send her anyway for a multitude of endpoints. ]

:') :') :') i can't wait for them to adapt CoD and everyone cry
It would be more if it let's me in. [ Me and this terrible purpose that haunts me. ] And if another should even follow me in that way.
[ Billions dead. Starving. Suffering. Jihad--holy war. Crossing the Known Universe and devouring in its wake.
He couldn't let another suffer on his path for just him. If the path ends up being no other way. He will fight with everything against it, and yet, something tells him he can't escape it. A time will come where he must chose and he will chose that path. Everything in him that is Atreides strikes against the idea.
An amused sound comes from him. There are implications beneath her words. He decides to test his deduction.]
You're not as subtle in your words as you might think, Serenity.
i'm already weeping (at least he gets to do somewhat normal teen stuff in this thread)
[ Now both hands cup her knees as she stares at him from where she's lurched backward a degree, looking all the world like some dessert animal with enormous eyes. ]
What do you mean? [ Blink. Blink. She blushes under his scrutiny, though perhaps not for the reason he'd settle upon. Not a shred of subtlety in this one, that much is true. Yet she'd not intended to be crafty. ] I'm speaking honestly.
[ In defiance of etiquette training, she openly 'ha-rumphs' at him; her bangs flutter as the expels the air, her lower lip coaxed to a more obvious pout. ]
You ought not tease a purehearted maiden, Paul Atreides!
[ Paul regards her for a moment. Either his conclusion was incorrect, or, she truly has yet to realize the implications of her statement. A huff of a laugh leaves him with a wide smile. A shake of his head. ]
I misunderstood, sorry. [ Although, he is certain he was correct. She simply is naive in many ways. Ways that will certainly lead to her death on Arrakis unless she matures quickly. ] Unless you believe your dreams to lead you to a Fremen? You may need to wait some time to see if he is here. The only Imperials besides us are the Harkonnens.
[ He stands then. Hands hang at his side as he looks once more over the dunes. Blue eyes with no whites seem to almost glow in the fading light. ] I imagine you'd wish to meet my mother, but she has gone south. I can send word of your arrival to her.
[ Lead her to a Fremen, she means. Granted, the only one she’s met thus far is Stilgar, though he seems-
Indescribable.
What if she is to fall for a Fremen warrior? What would that be like? On the trip from the safe house she’d been kept in until it was prudent to travel, she’d heard more than one spacefarer slander them as ‘demons.’
Another downwise cast of her eyes, her knuckles skimming her cheek as she speculates if any living person could be a demon in their entirety.
Even demons are loved by someone.
She hides her hands within the billows of her skirt. ]
We had wanted to meet her before- [ She drifts off before she rallies back. ] But I wouldn’t want to be any trouble.
I wouldn't take you as someone who would adapt well to the life of a Fremen wife. [ A slight tease is in his voice. ] You wouldn't have to leave the titles and grandure behind. It's a hard life. Harsh. Demanding.
[ A shake of his head. ] You wouldn't be the trouble, Serenity. She would.
[ Blue-in-blue eyes look towards the two moons once more. ] She's safer in the south while I fight here in the north.
[ If Paul pays attention, he'll hear a noise akin to a little laugh before it's stifled into the mound of her shoulder. Is he the one being teased in return? Maybe, just perhaps, she finds that line of reasoning a bit...
...naive?
What a pair they make, experts in their fields. ]
Well, if we both loved each other, none of that would matter. I'd leave it without thinking.
[ Her head's not left the ground without a chance of retrieval, note, as she adds: ]
Except I have a duty to my guardians, too. And they've put aside love...
[ Mostly. Her trailing off hints at complex court "politics." ]
PAUL i'm crying, i just want him to be happy.
